Tell us about how you got your start?

I started in 97, a mate of mine had decks and a bunch of records and showed me how to mix, I can’t remember when I got my turntables, but I do remember learning on belt drives. That was 22 years ago and I’m still djing today. I started playing in clubs and bars and ended up working with a ton of Mcs, live, which led to recording a bunch and starting my Label Turnstyle Records.

How did you get your stage name?

If you spell RELLIK backwards its KILLER

What is your Production/Creative process?

When I work with artists its important to be able to adapt. If im building a beat, I usually have the artist with me while I make it, I draw inspiration from working closely with people, It stops me from repeating too many similar ideas and makes me push the creativity further.

What are your thoughts on the current battle scene?

In Skratch djing? It’s becoming a real community; there are so many crazy djs in the battle scene in melb, once a month we meet up for a massive jam under the “SKRATCHER MELBOURNE” banner. Open deck events that feature showcases for the top battle djs. We jam and exchange techniques, all levels accepted. It’s a perfect opportunity to learn and “peacefully battle”.

Do good djs need to scratch?

If you want to be respected

What are your thoughts on the red bull three styles? Ever thought of entering.

Every time I’ve prepared my DMC routines I’ve spent months and months on just 6 minutes, there’s so much involved that it kind of turns me off the red bull style comp.

Trend in the Dj scene you would like to see change?

If only DJ Controllers looked cool….

Next big thing in the Dj world? What’s your prediction?

I dropped a Giant speaker on the mixer while I was setting up… then I was told by the owner of the venue that if I didn’t play the entire cd of chuck berry that he handed me then I wouldn’t get payed… but it was great thanks for asking….

What has been your favourite career moment?

Aside from winning the State champ at the DMCs in 2014; I would say Playing to full house at the Athenaeum Theatre for the Dennis Rodman spoken word Aus Tour. That was nuts

What are you doing to help change the current Aussie Hip-Hop prospective/stigma?

Keep Making Music that doesn’t feel like we are in some Paul Hogan Tourist commercial..
